Perry through to meet Williams

Joe Perry booked a second round meeting with holder Mark Williams after  holding off a late rally by Robert Milkins at the Embassy World Championship in Sheffield today.

Perry completed a 10-7 victory after qualifier Milkins recovered from 9-4 down with a three-frame unanswered burst.

Perry said: "Who knows what might have happened had it gone 9-8. I knew Rob would come out after the interval going for everything, running round the table at 100 mph. To be honest I reckon he was thinking too much about the game at the start. And he got himself into trouble as a result. When he just gets down and plays the game as he sees it, he is a lot more dangerous player."

Perry began the day with a 6-3 lead and seemed in control as he captured four of the opening five frames. Breaks of 51, 65 and 36 gave Milkins hope of a famous comeback. However, Perry played a solid 17th frame and his run of 53 sent him through for a best of 25 frames meeting with Welshman Williams.
