Few surprises at European Open

There were few surprises in the first round of the European Open snooker championship at Torquay with all but three of the top 16 progressing to the next stage. Jimmy White's chances were ended by Kent left-hander Gerard Greene, who now faces John Higgins in the next round. Glaswegian Alan McManus and Wisbech's Joe Perry also faced early exits.

Perry's was probably the most shocking defeat of the three as he went down 5-4 to provisional world number 61 Dave Finbow. He trailed Perry 4-1 after being docked frame five after arriving back late from the mid-session interval. Undeterred, Finbow won the next four to earn a match with world number one Ronnie O'Sullivan.
