Ronnie O'Sullivan became the latest high profile player to exit the Liam O'Connor Memorial Pro-Am when he was beaten 5-1 by Ian McCullough last night at the National Events Centre in Killarney. The Rocket's exit was due to yet another superb performance from McCullough.
In yesterday's other last 16 matches, Matthew Stevens defeated Nigel Bond 5-3 and Northern Ireland Champion Joe Meara booked his place in the quarter finals with a 5-1 win over Dominic Dale. World amateur champion Steve Mifsud ran out a 5-0 winner over Ryan Day, Fergal O'Brien came from 4-2 down to beat Mark King 5-4 and Ken Doherty had a solid 5-1 win over All Ireland Under-19 Champion Mark Allen. In the most exciting game of the tournament so far, Sean O'Neill fought back from 4-0 down against Mario Fernandez, only to lose the deciding frame.
In today's quarter-finals, McCullough plays Meara, Mifsud takes on Paul Hunter, Stevens faces O'Brien and Fernandez is up against Doherty.
