O'Brien is fourth seed to fall at Crucible

Former Masters runner-up Fergal O'Brien became the fourth seed to falter at the Embassy World Championships when he was beaten 10-8 by English qualifier Robert Milkins late on Wednesday night. In a low scoring game, there was only one break over 50 in the deciding session, Milkins hitting a 64 in the final frame to earn a dream second-round clash with defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan today.

Dubliner O'Brien offered no excuses for his defeat and praised his opponent's composure. The 30-year-old admitted: "It was a tough day and I didn't play great at any stage. Nothing happened at all for me. I'd never played Robert before but he was very relaxed and gave it a good go. The arena was roasting - I've never known it so hot - but that's not an excuse. Robert is probably a quicker player than Ronnie and he's got nothing to lose. But Ronnie has to be favourite."

26-year-old Milkins, who beat Tony Drago in the final qualifying round to reach the Crucible, added: "It was a tough game and I struggled to get over the line. This is my biggest win by far and I'm not really thinking about my next match. I'm just glad to be through."
