Neville plays down United's chances

Manchester United full-back Gary Neville has claimed that the club are a million miles away from winning the Premier League title despite their recent return to winning ways. The reigning champions are now just six points behind leaders Newcastle after back-to-back wins over Derby and Middlesbrough and bookies have slashed their odds for the title race. However, Neville insists the players at United are not getting carried away with their current position.

"I must admit I had a little smile when I saw the league table on Sunday, but there's a long way to go. I don't think we can get above ourselves and it's a million miles for us to win the championship. It can change so quickly. It's six points now, but the other teams above us have a game in hand. We've got an awful lot of work to do before we can get anywhere near winning the championship. We've got to put together a massive run of games, but it doesn't look as grim as it did on Saturday week that's for sure," he pointed out.

However, Neville is hopeful that United can keep on the heels of the leaders, as he believes they will come strong in the run-in. "I would love to see us in touch with five or six games to go because I would fancy us then. There are two or three of the sides above us who have had bad results and Leeds have dropped points and Liverpool have dropped points. But they know they are going to drop points at some stage and it's about how they recover from it. We've got to try to put pressure on them and we've got to try and get back up the league. It we can win four or five games on the trot, it does put the pressure on. It gives us confidence and makes them think a bit, but it's a million miles away yet," he told MUTV.
