Northern Ireland's Joe Swail has been knocked out of the UK Championship in York after going down 9-5 to Mark Davis. Davis, who knocked out former world number three James Wattana 7-6 in the previous round, produced a solid display against the world championship semi-finalist to make it through to the last 16. He now faces a possible clash with Stephen Hendry if the seven times world champion defeats fellow Scot Drew Henry in his opening match this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Welshman Dominic Dale is also through to the next round after a 9-6 victory over world number 14 Graeme Dott. He will now play either Dubliner Ken Doherty or Terry Murphy. Finn Robin Hull hammered world number 13 Mark King 9-2 to progress while Alan McManus beat the 1991 UK champion John Parrott 9-6. McManus now plays world number one Mark Williams or Mancunian Nick Dyson. He is also the first top 16 star to progress to round three after the defeats of Dott, King and Swail.
