Limerick's Vincent Meaney secured the title of Munster Champion 2001 with a hard fought 4-2 victory over Nenagh's junior international Damien Shoer at the Munster Close in Killarney on Sunday. The prestigious tournament, which is fiercely contested each year by Munster's best, was held for the second year running in the town's impressive Cue Club.
The tournament is also used as a selection process for the Munster team for the upcoming Interprovincial Series next month in Carlow. Both finalists will be joined by semi-finalists John Torpey (Limerick) and Tom Glesson (Nenagh) on the Munster team. The other three places were awarded to senior Irish international Brendan O'Donoghue, another Nenagh player, and Frank Sarsfield (Limerick) and Tom O'Driscoll (Waterford), who were selected due to their success in national tournaments this season and previous Interprovincial experience.
Munster are going for three in a row this year and will be managed by Irish team manager Don O'Donoghue, from Cork.
