John Higgins' appetite for winning titles has not been satisfied despite a historic victory in the Stan James British Open final at Newcastle last night. Higgins heads for Preston and the inaugural LG Cup determined to capture a fourth consecutive tournament. And the 26-year-old Scot is not tempted to let someone else gets their hands on a piece of silverware.
"I'll be going there totally relaxed," he said. "I don't think I can lose and that's a great feeling to have for any tournament." Higgins defeated fellow Scot Graeme Dott 9-6 at the Telewest Arena to become the first player ever to win the opening three titles of a new campaign.
"Not even Stephen Hendry and Steve Davis managed to do that. I'm very honoured because they have just about every other record in the book between them," Higgins said. "And he is now ready to take his lead from the two potting legends to maintain his monopoly on the glittering prizes. I'm really enjoying my snooker now but a couple of years ago I wasn't doing as well as perhaps I might."
