John Higgins maintained his unbeaten start to the new campaign when he captured the Stan James British Open with a 9-6 victory over fellow Scot Graeme Dott in Newcastle this evening. The win was Higgins' third major title in seven weeks following recent successes at the Champions Cup and Regal Masters, and netted the 26-year-old £92,500m to boost his earnings to £255,500.
Higgins, who became a father for the first time a week ago, was happy with the win despite failing to produce his best snooker. He said: "The snooker wasn't of the highest quality but I got the result."
