Irish senior team through to final

The Republic of Ireland senior snooker team reached the final of the International Challenge Cup in Prestatyn, Wales last night a 12-6 win over Northern Ireland. Wins over Northern Ireland, Scotland, The Isle of Man and France saw them top their group comfortably in the Challenge Cup and they now play England in the final tonight at 7.30. The senior squad also lead the group in the main tournament, The Prince of Wales Shield, which is contested between the Home International countries, and they play Wales at 3pm today.

A win will almost certainly set up another deciding match with England to retain the title. Two members of the Irish senior team are also still in contention for the Pontins Open, a large Pro-am which is held in conjunction with the Home Internationals each year. Wexford’s Rodney Goggins and Nenagh’s Brendan O'Donoghue are through to the last 16 of the competition.
