Organisers of snooker's annual awards lunch due to be held tomorrow at London's Cafe Royal have decided to call off the event as a mark of respect following Tuesday's terrorist attacks in the US. World champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, who won six titles last season, was expected to be named as player of the year. The award winners will be announced later in the season but organisers, World Snooker, say the event won't be rearranged.
"The lunch is a day when all those involved in snooker get together to honour our champions. We don't feel this is the right time to be celebrating," explained World Snooker chairman Mark Wildman. Chief executive Jim McKenzie added: "I think I speak on behalf of all the players when I say this is the right decision."
