Snooker: Ebdon through to Scottish Open final

Peter Ebdon is through to tomorrow's Regal Scottish Open final after a 6-4 victory over home favourite Drew Henry in Aberdeen tonight. Ebdon made an impressive comeback after going down 3-1 by the interval to secure his place against either Ireland's Ken Doherty or Paul Hunter in the best-of-17-frames final. Doherty and Hunter are contesting the other semi-final tonight.

However, it proved to be a major disappointment for Henry as he has yet to appear in a major final and this latest defeat means he is also unlikely to gain promotion into snooker's elite top 16 for next season.

But there was some consolation for the 32-year-old Scot with Ebdon full of praise for his opponent. "That was very tough," he admitted. "Drew has always been a superb player and it's nice to see him getting some of the success he deserves. Drew pushed me to the limit and I am delighted that I was able to show some of the resolve that I was renowned for in the past," he added.

"For whatever reason I lost the plot for a couple of seasons but hopefully in the next season or two I will re-establish myself as one of the top players in the game. Next season I'll be in the top eight and hopefully the season after I will get into the top four. That's my aim anyway," Ebdon said. (PA)
