Snooker: Mixed luck for Irish at the Crucible

Fergal O'Brien has been knocked out of the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible in Sheffield. He was 12-4 down to Mark Williams overnight. The pair returned this morning with Williams needing just one more frame for victory and a place in the semi finals. O'Brien took the first frame in the morning however, but Williams secured the frame he needed with a break of 82.

The news of Northern Ireland's Joe Swail is much better. He beat Dominic Dale 13-9 in this afternoon's final session and now goes into the semi-final. There he will face Matthew Stevens, who brushed aside Jimmy White 13-7.

In the other quarter-final 1998 Champion John Higgins crushed Anthony Hamilton 13-3, winning all eight frames in this afternoon's session.
