Snooker: Davis beats Dott

Six time former winner, Londoner Steve Davis has overcome the initial hurdle in the Embassy World Professional Snooker Championships, by eventually beating Graham Dott, although the Scot has accused Davis of behaviour tantamount to cheating. Dott has accused Davis of slow play and even of visiting the toilet too often during the match which finished 10-6, albeit at a pedestrian pace. Also this afternoon, Alan McManus leads Nigel Bond 9-7, Stephen Lee has beaten Kristan Helgason 10-3 and Jimmy White trails Billy Snaddon 4-5, and its John Higgins 5 Dave Harold 2.

Earlier John Parrott survived a major Embassy World Championship scare, coming through a marathon encounter with Gary Wilkinson to win in the deciding frame. Wilkinson looked set to continue the cull of seeds when he led 9-7, but Parrott recovered brilliantly and a break of 83 booked his place in the second round against Joe Swail
