Former World Champion Ken Doherty has made a good start in the first round of the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible in Sheffield. He has beaten Darren Morgan of Wales by 10-3 this morning and will now go on to face Anthony Hamilton who beat Marco Fu 10-4 yesterday. Also today Matthew Stephens beat Tony Drago by 10 frames to 2, and former champion Steve Davis leads Graham Dott 5-0.
Ken was not faced with any serious challenge by the Welshman and took less than an hour to take the final four frames. Seventh seed Doherty is in the bottom half of the draw which has so far gone to form and has shown no sign of the big upsets that have left the top of the draw wide open. If he is to progress to take the title, he will have to defeat the likes of John Higgins and Mark Williams along the way.
