Snooker: Hendry crashes out

Defending champion Stephen Hendry crashed out of the Embassy World Championship at the first hurdle when he was beaten 10-7 by Stuart Bingham.

Hendry's potting was not up to its usual high standard in the morning session and he struggled to a 5-4 lead.

But, the Scot's game was, if anything, worse in the evening and Basildon-based world No 92 Bingham, a former world amateur champion, won the first four frames of the session on his way to springing a major Crucible surprise.

Ireland's Fergal O'Brien finished the day level at four frames a piece with Scotland's Chris Small. The game resumes at 10am on Sunday.

In other games Mark Williams leads J Read by 5-4 frames, and Joe Swail leads Paul Hunter by the same margin. These games will resume tomorrow morning at 10am.
