As Ireland prepare to face Scotland in the Six Nations at Murrayfield on Saturday, RTÉ Archives looks back at footage from 1929 when the two countries faced off at Lansdowne Road.
The match took place on 23 February 1929 and saw Scotland win 16-7. It was the 15th meeting between the sides in what was then the Five Nations Championship.
There were over 40,000 spectators in attendance at Lansdowne Road in the day, resulting in overcrowding in the stands. The match even had to be halted on several occasions due to the crowd encroaching on the pitch.
The match was refereed by Mr B.S. Cumberiege.
This film was given to RTÉ Archives by Jimmy Quinlan. He found it, along with a 9.5mm projector, at a car boot sale in Athy, Co Kildare.
9.5mm film used a single perforation sprocket hole between each frame and was especially popular in the 1920s and 1930s.
