Wales rugby international Andy Powell was banned from driving for 15 months and fined £1,000 after admitting driving a golf buggy while drunk.

The 28-year-old back row forward was arrested with another man in the early hours of February 14, the morning after playing in Wales's 31-24 victory over Scotland at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

The Cardiff Blues player was dropped from Wales's Six Nations squad after being charged with drink-driving following the incident at a service station on the M4 motorway, close to a hotel where the Wales team were staying.

His lawyer Conrad Gadd told Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Tuesday that the player regretted the 'foolish' incident.

'He is regretful that any young boy who may see him as a hero might think this behaviour is acceptable and he wants to make it plain that it isn't,' he said.
