Mauro Bergamasco has been cited for allegedly punching Wales captain Stephen Jones during Italy's famous win on Saturday.
Bergamasco, 27, faces a disciplinary hearing in London on Tuesday that will determine whether he is available to play against Ireland at the weekend. Jones required four stitches to a cut above his left eye after being struck by a swinging arm late in the first half. He later left the field permanently when the cut began to affect his vision.
Bergamasco was cited for foul play by the independent citing commissioner Jean-Claude Legendre.
If he is banned tomorrow, the loss of Bergamasco would be a huge blow to Italy after their successive victories over Scotland and Wales.
Bergamasco, a talented and versatile operator, scored Italy's match-winning try against Wales. He had started the game at open-side flanker but then moved to centre after Gonzalo Canale limped off injured.
