France head coach Bernard Laporte has remained true to his word by ringing the changes for Sunday's RBS 6 Nations Championship clash with Ireland.

Laporte made it clear at the outset of the tournament that he will give all his 40-man Six Nations squad a chance to prove themselves, as he looks to finalise his party for the World Cup later in the year.

And for the historic match against Ireland at Croke Park, he has changed a third of the team that did so well in dismantling Italy 39-3 in the championship opener on Sunday.

In the backs, centre David Marty - as expected - replaces the injured Florian Fritz (leg) while Vincent Clerc is named on the wing instead of Toulouse team-mate Cedric Heymans, who drops to the bench.

In the pack, Stade Francais prop Sylvain Marconnet comes in for Olivier Milloud in the front row and lock Jerome Thion, struggling with a knee injury, is replaced by Pascal Pape.

That means Pape will combine with Castres team-mate Lionel Nallet in the second row.

Biarritz's Imanol Harinordoquy, meanwhile, is preferred to Julien Bonnaire in the back row.

Milloud, Thion and Bonnaire have all been selected on the bench.

Raphael Ibanez is captain again in the absence of regular skipper Fabien Pelous, who is injured, with Sale's Sebastien Bruno named on the bench as replacement hooker.

The new-look half-back pairing of Pierre Mignoni and David Skrela, who looked very comfortable which each other's game against Italy, get another opportunity to fine-tune their partnership.

Sebastien Chabal, man of the match last weekend with his two tries, keeps his place as well.

Laporte said: ‘We were satisfied with the first match in Italy but we want to change things around in the side.

‘The players who will start on Sunday will be very keen to demonstrate they are as good as the ones who won in Rome.’

The head coach is delighted to see Marty back in the line-up. The Perpignan centre is often forced to play third fiddle behind the Toulouse midfield pairing of Fritz and Yannick Jauzion.

But he did prove his worth against Ireland in last year's Six Nations, starting in the absence of Jauzion and scoring two tries in the 43-31 win at the Stade de France.

Laporte said: ‘It will be good to see him again.

‘He practically didn't play in the last Tests in November and it is always difficult for the staff not to play one of the members of the squad.

‘Deep down, he will want to prove he can play in the World Cup.’
