Wales face losing Gareth Thomas for their first three RBS 6 Nations Championship matches after the player was given a four-week suspension today.
The Toulouse full-back was also fined €7,500 after being found guilty of misconduct by the ERC for his behaviour during the French club's win over Ulster in the Heineken Cup last month.
Thomas was charged with engaging in ‘aggressive’ and ‘obscene’ behaviour towards Ulster supporters in the match on 21 January.
Thomas was earlier today named in Wales' squad for their opening Six Nations match against Ireland in Cardiff on Sunday.
But he is now out of action until March 1, ruling him out of the subsequent matches against Scotland and France - although the player does have the right of appeal.
However, today's independent disciplinary committee hearing in Dublin, chaired by Jeff Blackett and also comprising Rod McKenzie and Achille Reali found Thomas not guilty of engaging in aggressive exchanges with spectators.
