Team Ireland is sending two crews to this week's 49er World Championships in France, a key event as qualification cycle for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics comes into focus.

Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove, who both competed at the Tokyo and Paris games, are set to compete in the Men's Skiff 49er class.

The duo recently took silver in the French Olympic Week in Hyères as they finished behind China and ahead of France after a ferocious battle.

The other crew will be Erin McIlwaine and Ellen Barbour, who are involved in the Women's Skiff 49erFX.

"Recent preparations have been going well for the two boats going into Quiberon with both of them in the medal race finals in the recent Hyeres Grand Slam," said Irish Sailing Technical Director, Rory Fitzpatrick.

"In saying that, this event is a World Championship and there will be stages where the competition will get tough. I've been impressed with each of the teams' character over the past number of weeks so I believe they will find a way to bring their best performance to the racetrack."

The event will take place at National Nautical Institute in Saint-Pierre-Quiberon.
