Ireland's Eve McMahon has dropped to third in the ILCA 6 dinghy event at the Princess Sofia Trophy after Thursday's tricky set of races in fluky winds off the coast of Majorca.

The Howth sailor wore the yellow leader’s bib throughout the day but lost the lead after the first race, then retook first place before ending in third overall.

Belgium's Emma Plasschaert heads the standings from Britain's Daisy Collingridge.

McMahon commented after racing: "Overall, I'm satisfied with today’s sailing. The conditions were incredibly unstable, making this one of the toughest regattas I’ve competed in so far, so I’m pleased with how I performed.

"We only had one truly consistent race today, but I really enjoyed that one. With three races left tomorrow, it’s still all to play for."

McMahon's brother Ewan is 11th in the men's event.

Finn Lynch, who is the world number three in the men’s single-handed event and who was in second place on Monday, was hit by an illness sweeping through many of the top sailors in Palma this week and had to withdraw.

After failing to reach either the gold or silver fleets in the men’s skiff event, double Olympians Robert Dickson and Sea Waddilove officially withdrew from the competition today.
