Ireland's Annalise Murphy was able to recover from the setback of disqualification in her first race in the Gold Fleet at the Laser Radial World Championships in Melbourne.
The Irish Olympic medalist started the day in fifth place and was well poised to threaten the medal positions but was 'U flag' disqualified from the first of the today's three races.
That decision saw Murphy drop down the standings, however she recovered magnificently in the following two races, claiming second place finishes in both to end the day in eighth place overall.
While Murphy finished the day worse off that she started, the fact that she remains inside the top ten after receiving a U flag is a major achievement.
Aoife Hopkins, who also qualified for the Gold Fleet, was unable to improve on her position of 31st and finishes of 35th, 43rd and 44th saw her drop down to 45th overall.
The three concluding races are due to be held tomorrow.
