Crosshaven's Mark Mansfield was today named Cork Dry Gin Sailor of the Year. The 37-year-old enjoyed a successful '99, retaining his 1720 European title but with the Olympics coming up he's hoping for a much better 2000. Mansfield who also won this years Irish Sailing Associations Champion of Champions event is now engaged on a full-time training programme which could ultimately lead to a place on the starting line at the Sydney games. However, he will firstly have to come through the Star keelboat class World Championships in Annapolis in May.
