Tiger Woods's wife Elin has issued libel proceedings against an Irish magazine for publishing fake nude pictures of her during September's Ryder Cup tournament in Ireland.

The former model filed a summons against The Dubliner magazine at Dublin's High Court and has engaged an Irish law firm to represent her.

The September edition of The Dubliner carried bogus nude pictures of Elin Woods alongside a story on some of the US Ryder Cup wives headlined 'Ryder Cup filth for Ireland'.

The listings magazine, which later apologised for an article it said had been satirical, also falsely linked her to a number of porn sites.

The article prompted a furious response from Tiger Woods and the American Ryder Cup team as the tournament got under way at the K Club in County Kildare. The United States eventually lost by a wide margin to the European team.

The publishers of the magazine later offered to donate the proceeds of the issue to a charity of the couple's choice.

Woods's lawyers had no immediate comment. Golf's leading player married Sweden's Elin Nordegren in Barbados in 2004.
