Padraig Harrington and Colin Montgomerie, conquerors of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson two years ago, could not get the better of Paul McGinley and Henrik Stenson today.
But Harrington said afterwards he would still be delighted to partner the Scot again when the Ryder Cup kicks off on Friday.
'We lost the money, but had a good day,' said the Dubliner. 'We lost one down to a eagle again on 18. Two days in a row!'
On Tuesday Harrington and McGinley had to pay money over to Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood when the latter made a three at the par five closing hole.
'I don't think anybody on the team would not relish the chance to play with Monty in a Ryder Cup,' added Harrington. 'He's one of the best players in the world in the Ryder Cup format. He excels.
'You obviously let Colin be the captain. That's a position he likes and he plays it very well. He's definitely the one leading the ship, without a doubt.'
David Howell was happy too when captain Ian Woosnam put him with Paul Casey three days after Casey knocked him off the top of the European Order of Merit by winning the £1million World Match Play title at Wentworth.
Two years ago Howell and Casey were newcomers who overcame Jim Furyk and Chad Campbell in their first game after being omitted on the opening day.
'We're very comfortable in each other's company,' commented Howell. 'We're vying for the Order of Merit, but good friends. You need to be comfortable and I think that's what Paul and I have got.'
