Leinster's opponents Stormers have been dealt a major blow ahead of Saturday's BKT United Rugby Championship semi-final, with star out-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu sidelined with a long-term ankle injury.
The 22-year-old suffered the injury in the process of scoring a try in his side’s 44-21 quarter-final win against Cardiff at the weekend.
It’s another crucial injury for John Dobson’s side to deal with. Springbok pair Cobus Reinach and Deon Fourie are also ruled out for the 2022 champions.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu's injury will also have a big impact on the Springboks, with the out-half now expected to miss their opening three games of the Nations Championship next month, where Rassie Erasmus’ side take on England, Scotland and Wales.
He could also be a doubt for South Africa’s high-profile four-Test series against New Zealand, which takes place across August and September.
Jurie Matthee is likely to fill the 10 shirt for the Stormers in Saturday’s semi-final with Leinster at Aviva Stadium.
The 25-year-old has made 16 appearances for the Cape Town side across the URC and Champions Cup this season, scoring a try and kicking 15 points from the tee when the Stormers beat Leinster 35-0 on the opening weekend of the season.
Meanwhile, Leinster have a number of injury concerns this week, with Joe McCarthy and Dan Sheehan departing Saturday’s win against the Lions with knocks, while Tadhg Furlong, Garry Ringrose and Rónan Kelleher also sat out the quarter-final with injury issues.
