Tommy O'Brien the major injury doubt for Leinster's euro final

Leinster will be sweating on the fitness of Tommy O'Brien ahead of Saturday’s Investec Champions Cup final against Bordeaux-Begles in Bilbao.

The Ireland international is the major injury concern for Leo Cullen’s side as they look to end an eight-year wait for their fifth European title.

The wing had been due to feature in Saturday's URC win against the Ospreys, but was a late withdrawal before kick-off, with Leo Cullen confirming afterwards that the 27-year-old had picked up a knock in training.

The province’s latest medical update says O’Brien will be monitored throughout the week, before a call is made on his fitness.

Loosehead Paddy McCarthy could make a welcome return from his long-term foot injury.

The prop hasn't played since suffering the injury in Leinster’s pool stage win against La Rochelle in January.

However, McCarthy did take a full part in Leinster’s warm-up before Saturday’s win against the Ospreys, which bodes well for his chances of being available.

Wing Joshua Kenny and Brian Deeny are also being monitored this week for injuries, while Hugh Cooney’s season is over after the centre was withdrawn late on at the Aviva on Saturday.
