Munster have been handed a boost ahead of their vital URC match with the Lions on Saturday evening at Thomond Park after Diarmuid Barron's suspension was overturned in a disciplinary hearing.

Barron was penalised for a dangerous clear-out on Connacht’s Dylan Tierney-Martin last week and a yellow card was issued by referee Peter Martin.

Barron went to the bin and the foul play review officer then upgraded it to red. Munster went on to lose the game 26-7.

An Independent Disciplinary Committee, comprising of Sheriff Kathrine Mackie (Scotland), Charles Samson (Scotland), Chris Watts (Wales) reviewed the incident and agreed that an act of foul play had occurred but found that the level of danger could not be clearly justified in order to upgrade the sanction to a red card.

The Munster player had already accepted that he had committed a foul but also felt that his actions did not merit a red.

A suspension has not been upheld and he has been named among the replacements in a game that will have a huge say in Munster's season as they attempt to secure a play-off and Champions Cup place.
