Ireland begin their Women's Six Nations against England on 11 April

Ireland head coach Scott Bemand has named nine uncapped players in his squad of 36 ahead of next month's Guinness Women’s Six Nations campaign.

Hooker Beth Buttimer is among those, the 20-year-old having been in Bemand’s World Cup squad last year, with Jemima Adams Verling, Eilís Cahill, Aoibheann McGrath and Sophie Barrett the other uncapped forwards, along with uncapped backs Alana McInerney, Caitriona Finn, Niamh Gallagher, and Robyn O’Connor.

There has been considerable turnover since that World Cup, with nine of that group not included for the championship.

Among those are retired pair Eimear Corri-Fallon and Nicole Fowley, as well as long-term co-captain Edel McMahon who is out for the season with a knee injury.

Experienced wing Amee-Leigh Costigan will also miss the Six Nations, after confirming she is pregnant in recent days.

As previously announced by Bemand - who has signed a new contract until the 2029 World Cup - Erin King will captain Ireland for the championship.

The 22-year-old, who missed the World Cup due to injury, takes over from McMahon and Sam Monaghan in the role, although Monaghan is still included in the Ireland squad.

Also returning to the Irish squad is versatile forward Dorothy Wall, after she missed the World Cup with an achilles injury.

Ireland will open their campaign away to England at Twickenham on Saturday, 11 April, before hosting Italy at Dexcom Stadium the following week.

Bemand’s charges then travel to Clermont to face France in Round 3 on Saturday, 25 April, and conclude the Six Nations with back-to-back home games in Belfast and Dublin.

Wales are the visitors to Affidea Stadium in Round 4 on Saturday 9 May; then Scotland come to Aviva Stadium on the final weekend on Sunday 17 May in what will be a first-ever standalone Irish women’s Test at the Aviva.
