Joshua Kenny keen to keep blinkers on amid rise for Leinster

Joshua Kenny insists the blinkers will stay on as he continues to make a mark for Leinster this season.

The 22-year-old wing has commanded attention in recent weeks with his try-scoring exploits for the province.

The Wicklow native is the top try scorer for Leinster so far this season. He has weighed in with six tries in the BKT United Rugby Championship and a further two against La Rochelle in what was his Investec Champions Cup debut.

A talented 100m sprinter in his younger days, his career seems to have propelled itself into warp speed in the first half of the provincial season.

But speaking on Monday, Kenny pointed to the idea that taking things slowly and steadily behind the scenes has been the key to his rise.

"I don't think there's any secret. I just try to take every game as it comes," he said.

"It sounds super cliche but that's honestly been my main focus for the games that I've played so far this season, just focusing on what's in front of me, keeping it simple.

"It's paid off. I've been fortunate enough to get a good few starts now and yeah, just taking each week as it comes and keeping things simple."

While he makes a mark for Leinster, whispers about international involvement could become louder if he maintains his form down the line. But for now, Kenny is shooting down any talk of appearing more prominently on Andy Farrell's wider radar.

"It's not something I'm focused on really. As I said, I've maintained so far keeping a narrow focus and not listening to too much outside my own game and what I need to focus on each week and it's proved pretty good to me so far."

Kenny featured for 78 minutes on Saturday as Leinster sealed a 34-23 win in their inter-pro against Connacht at a new-look Dexcom Stadium.

"We'll take good momentum from our win on the weekend. We knew it was going to be a huge game, (with) the atmosphere that was going to be built up," Kenny said of what is his province's 10th win on the trot in all competitions.

"We knew the test that we were going to be faced with all last week and we did talk about it. Connacht were going to bring everything for us and we're glad with the result and yeah we can definitely bring it through to this weekend."

Saturday will see Leinster host Edinburgh at Aviva Stadium. With the Guinness Six Nations looming large, it will mark an opportunity for those not selected for Ireland to carry the can for the coming weeks.

"They're a great side and it will be my first time playing them," Kenny said of Edinburgh.

"But we'll do our homework on them and we know they stick to their guns and have got a very good structure to their game.

"I think for us, focus on ourselves, we've got a new group with the lads leaving for the Six Nations. So we've got a newer group in this week and it's just maintaining that cohesion and looking to keep the momentum from last weekend and the wins previously."
