Tadhg Beirne is the only Irish representative on the World Rugby men's Team of the Year, with South African hooker Malcolm Marx scooping the Player of the Year award.

It marks a superb year for Beirne, who is included in the best XV for the second successive time.

The Munster forward was named Lions player of the series after victory over Australia and his outstanding displays for club and country were recognised with the recent Guinness Rugby Writers of Ireland Player of the year award.

The team includes six South Africans, two each from New Zealand, England and Australia, with the aforementioned Beirne, French winger Louis Bielle-Biarrey and Scotland centre Huw Jones completing the line-up.

There is no Irish player in the women’s team, with the injury-impacted Aoife Wafer missing out after inclusion last year.

Canadian star Sophie de Goede has been crowned the Women's Player of the Year.
