Mack Hansen and Stuart McCloskey took a full part in Ireland training on Tuesday and are on target to feature against Australia at the weekend.

Connacht wing Hansen missed the games against New Zealand and Japan as he recovered from a foot injury but joined up with Andy Farrell's squad on Monday.

Full-back Jamie Osborne was yesterday ruled out for the rest of the series with a shoulder injury.

Ulster centre McCloskey (below) featured against the All Blacks in Chicago but was withdrawn in the second half with an adductor issue and was left out of the squad that beat Japan 41-10.

Leinster centre Garry Ringrose and flanker Josh van der Flier are both nursing hamstring injuries and took limited part in training in Blanchardstown.

"First of all it was great to have Mack back amongst the squad, he's always a great man to bring the energy up, the boys look forward to having him in today and yesterday," assistant coach Andrew Goodman told RTÉ Sport.

"He took a full part in training today and was running around well, Stu, the same.

"And then [Josh] and Ringer are going through their process, return to play so they took part in parts of training today. They are all pushing for the weekend."

Farrell’s side face an Australia team led by former Ireland boss Joe Schmidt (above), who are also coming off the back of a 26-19 loss to Italy at the weekend.

Goodman said Schmidt’s familiarity with Ireland’s players and structures don’t overly impact how the 2023 and 2024 Six Nations winners will approach the game.

"We just know that they'll have a great plan coming into the weekend," he said.

"We know he has a great mind, this will be a big game for Joe coming back to Dublin, it always is.

"It was a competitive, tough affair last year and we expect no different this year.

"As a coaching group we've all had experience with Joe, we've all got huge amounts of respect for him, and we know that the team, especially what happened in Italy and the disappointment there, they'll be coming with a point to prove."

Ireland’s lineout has been an issue in their last two games and tighthead prop Thomas Clarkson (above) admitted they need to improve against a Wallabies side that beat the British and Irish Lions just a couple of months ago.

"Yeah it was probably what we struggled with at the weekend," said the 25-year-old Leinster forward, who has nine Ireland caps and toured with the Lions.

"[Japan] were a good attacking team, I thought we defended well but we were just defending for ages because we just couldn’t win our own ball.

"And it’s about individual responsibility.

"I was at fault for one of them, there was a communication error and that was my fault.

"But it’s also as a collective making sure we are better. And it will be better. There are just simple fixes, it’s just better concentration."
