Ireland are safely through to the quarter-finals of the Women's Rugby World Cup and face New Zealand in their final Pool C game on Sunday afternoon.

This tie will decide who tops the group and faces the runner-up from Pool D, where France and South Africa will duel it out for top spot later on Sunday.

After comprehensive wins over Japan and Spain, Scott Bemand's side will be determined to keep the momentum going, however, the back-to-back World Cup winners will be out to avenge last year's loss in the WXV.

Ireland and New Zealand face off for their fourth ever meeting and second in the World Cup.

After pulling off a shock WXV1 win last year, Ireland, ranked fifth in the world, will be fully aware that the Black Ferns are out for revenge.

Ireland are the only side in world rugby with a better head-to-head than New Zealand, with two wins from three previous encounters.

Both teams have perfect Pool C records to this point. Ireland recorded bonus-point wins over Japan (42-14) and Spain (43-27), while New Zealand, ranked third in the world, won 62-17 and 54-8 over the same teams.

Ireland remain without star forward Aoife Wafer and Scott Bemand has made six changes, including the return of co-captain Edel McMahon.

Neve Jones, Ruth Campbell, Brittany Hogan, Aoibheann Reilly and Béibhinn Parsons are also restored to the starting XV.

The world champions, meanwhile, have made two personnel changes with Liana Mikaele-Tu'u and Renee Holmes starting at number 8 and full-back, respectively.

WHAT THEY SAID

Scott Bemand (Ireland head coach): "There's always bits to tidy up on. But we recognise from last week a lot of those bits of pressure came from things that we can control. So we've been able to go after those this week. So part freshen-up, part preparedness and we think we're in the right space to go now."

Allan Bunting (New Zealand head coach): "Our wāhine (women) have all had an opportunity to play the past two games. Consistency and cohesion will be a key focus around our selections. We have had critical learnings out of the last two weeks and are building well."
