Edel McMahon and Enya Breen have both recovered from injury, with Ireland head coach Scott Bemand making five changes to his side for Sunday's Guinness Women's Six Nations meeting with Wales in Newport.

McMahon captains the side and takes the place of Erin King in the back row, after the openside flanker was ruled out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

Bemand has responded to Ireland's struggles at the scrum against England a week ago by dropping loosehead prop Niamh O'Dowd, who was yellow-carded during the second half in Cork last week.

Munster's Siobhán McCarthy comes in to make her first start in Test rugby, packing down alongside Neve Jones and Linda Djougang in the front row.

Ruth Campbell returns to the second row, where the 21-year-old partners Dorothy Wall, while Fiona Tuite is named on the bench.

Brittany Hogan and Aoife Wafer retain their places in the back row, joining McMahon at the back of the scrum.

There's a change at scrum-half with Molly Scuffil-McCabe (below) making her first appearance of this championship, starting alongside Dannah O'Brien.

Breen also starts for the first time in this Six Nations, joining Aoife Dalton in midfield with Eve Higgins on the bench.

Amee-Leigh Costigan, Anna McGann and Stacey Flood start for the fourth game in a row in the backfield.

The Ireland coach has also drafted in two fresh faces on the bench, with versatile forward Claire Boles set for her first cap since 2019, following her return from the Sevens programme.

Sadhbh McGrath is also named on the bench. The loosehead hasn't featured since winning her 13th cap in the final round of the championship against Scotland last year.

Meanwhile, Wales have made two changes to their side from last week's defeat to France in Brive.

Number 8 and vice-captain Alex Callender is back from a foot injury and comes into the starting side, replacing Gwen Crabb, while Georgia Evans moves up into the second row.

Gloucester-Hartpury's Kelsey Jones is preferred to Carys Phillips at hooker, while Lleucu George and Catherine Richards return to the replacements' bench.
