Ireland have made three changes to their team to take on Italy in the Guinness Women's Six Nations in Parma on Sunday.

Flanker Edel McMahon returns to the starting XV to captain the side, beaten 27-15 last weekend by France, for the round-two trip to Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi.

After making her injury comeback off the bench last week, Aoibheann Reilly starts at scrum-half in a half-back partnership with Dannah O'Brien.

In the pack, Niamh O’Dowd, Neve Jones and Linda Djougang are in an unchanged front row, with Ruth Campbell and Fiona Tuite, in ahead of Dorothy Wall, in the second row.

Head coach Scott Bemand has selected an unchanged back three as Stacey Flood continues at full-back and Anna McGann and Amee-Leigh Costigan are named on the wings, while Eve Higgins and Aoife Dalton once again make up the midfield pairing.

McMahon leads the side from blindside flanker, with Erin King at openside and Aoife Wafer – who was last weekend’s Player of the Round – completing the Ireland starting XV at number 8 against the Azzurre, who lost 38-5 to England in round one.

On the bench, Clíodhna Moloney, Siobhán McCarthy, Christy Haney, Grace Moore, Wall and Brittany Hogan provide the forward reinforcements, with Emily Lane and Enya Breen the backline options.

Italy have beaten Ireland in their last two meetings.

Speaking about Sunday's task, Bemand said: "I'm expecting an incredible challenge from Italy.

"Historically, we’ve always had a good battle with them. Our aim is to get our best game out there and if we do, we’ll be alright, but certainly the Italians won’t make it easy for us."

Replacements: Clíodhna Moloney, Siobhán McCarthy, Christy Haney, Grace Moore, Dorothy Wall, Brittany Hogan, Emily Lane, Enya Breen.
