RG Snyman is staying at Leinster for another season, after agreeing a one-year extension at the province.
The double World Cup winner has been a hugely popular signing since joining from Munster in the summer, making 14 appearances across the BKT URC and Investec Champions Cup, scoring four tries.
The South African was only expected to stay at Leinster for one season, but the IRFU have given the province the clearance to keep him for another year, satisfied that Snyman isn't blocking the gametime for any of Leinster’s young second row prospects.
It’s understood there are stipulations in the 30-year-old's contract around when the province can play him. Snyman has been among the replacements for all four of their Champions Cup pool games.
The Springbok had been open around his desire to stay in Ireland for a sixth season, having become settled in the country since joining Munster in 2020.
His first season at Leinster has been in stark contrast to his luckless four years at Munster, where were mired by injuries, including two ACL tears. In total, the 6ft 9in lock played just 20 games in four years at Thomond Park, while he has already featured 14 times in his debut season for Leinster.
He’s the second of their big summer signings to commit to the province for another season, with veteran tighthead Rabah Slimani recently agreeing a contract extension.
