Amee-Leigh Costigan will captain Ireland for the first time in Saturday's Guinness Women's Six Nations opener against France at Kingspan Stadium.

The Ireland Sevens veteran starts on the left wing, earning her 14th cap in the XVs format, with regular co-captain Edel McMahon named on the bench.

Head coach Scott Bemand has made four changes to the side that began the most recent international, a 26-14 win against the USA at the WXV in Canada, with Anna McGann, Eve Higgins, Dannah O'Brien and Ruth Campbell all coming into the starting team.

Stacey Flood has recovered from an ankle injury to be named at full-back, while McGann comes onto the right wing, replacing the now retired Eimear Considine.

Enya Breen - who captained Ireland against the USA in October - drops to the bench, with Higgins starting at inside centre and Aoife Dalton shifting across to the 13 channel.

Emily Lane continues at scrum-half and will make her first Six Nations appearance since 2021, while O'Brien replaces Nicole Fowley at out-half.

Niamh O'Dowd, Neve Jones and Linda Djougang continue in what has become the regular front row trio, while Campbell has been preferred to Fiona Tuite in the second row, and partners Dorothy Wall at lock.

The back row is unchanged, with Aoife Wafer, Brittany Hogan and Erin King all starting, although they do swap positions, with Wafer at 8, Hogan at blindside and King on the openside flank.

Interestingly, Bemand has also opted for a 6:2 bench split, with Aoibheann Reilly and Breen covering the backline subs.
