Hugo Keenan got on the scoresheet but Ireland missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the Madrid Sevens after an extra-time defeat to New Zealand.
The Leinster full-back scored the equalising try in overtime but a missed conversion sent the Pool B clash into an additional period in which New Zealand scored off the first possession to win the match 22-17.
Earlier, Ireland lost out to table-toppers Fiji, 26-21, in a game that also went to overtime.
