Ryan ban upheld as Munster and Leinster name teams for Champions Cup

Munster have pulled tighthead prop John Ryan out of their squad for Sunday's Investec Champions Cup Round of 16 meeting with Northampton Saints, after his appeal against a three-week suspension was unsuccessful.

Ryan had been named among Munster's replacements for Sunday's game against the Premiership leaders, with the province lodging an appeal against the ban following his tip-tackle in last week's win against Cardiff.

That appeal proved fruitless, with Ryan now out for Sunday's last-16 game, as well as the province's next two games, with Mark Donnelly taking his place on the bench.

In better news for Graham Rowntree's side, RG Snyman and Simon Zebo will start this weekend.

Springboks second row Snyman missed last weekend's win over Cardiff through illness, while Ireland wing Calvin Nash has not recovered from a leg injury - Zebo starts in his place.

Tadhg Beirne captains the side with two changes to the team that beat the Welsh region in the URC.

Ireland prop Jeremy Loughman (below) starts on his 100th Munster appearance, just over six years since making his debut for the province.

Mike Haley starts at full-back with Zebo and Shane Daly on either wing.

The half-back and centre partnerships are unchanged as Craig Casey, Jack Crowley, Alex Nankivell and Antoine Frisch, who earlier this week declared his interest in pursuing international honours with France, keep their places in the side.

Loughman, Niall Scannell and Stephen Archer pack down in the front row with Beirne and Snyman in the engine room.

Peter O’Mahony, John Hodnett and Gavin Coombes complete the starting XV with Coombes continuing his record of starting every game so far this season.

Eoghan Clarke, Josh Wycherley and Ryan provide the front row back-up with Tom Ahern and Alex Kendellen completing the forward cover. Similar to Coombes, Ahern and Kendellen have also featured in all 17 competitive games so far this year.

Conor Murray, Joey Carbery and Seán O’Brien are the backline replacements.

The hosts make two changes to the line-up that beat Saracens 41-30 last week, with captain Lewis Ludlam returning to the starting XV alongside number 8 Sam Graham in the back row.

Meanwhile, Leinster will be without Garry Ringrose for their game against Leicester Tigers on Saturday night at the Aviva Stadium (8pm) but injury concerns Robbie Henshaw (above), Andrew Porter and Hugo Keenan have been passed fit.

Caelan Doris captains the team for the first time in European competition, as Jamison Gibson-Park and Jack Conan are both set to make their 50th appearance in the Champions Cup.

The starting line-up sees three changes from the team that defeated Leicester in January in the pool stages.

Keenan returns to start at full-back, with Jordan Larmour and James Lowe named on the wing.

Henshaw and Jamie Osborne form the centre partnership once more, with Ross Byrne and Gibson-Park linking up at half-back.

In the pack, Porter, Dan Sheehan and Tadhg Furlong join forces for the first time since the Six Nations, in the front row.

Ross Molony and Joe McCarthy are in the second row with Ryan Baird, Josh van der Flier and Doris in the back-row.

Among the replacements, Conan is joined by academy scrum-half Ben Murphy and the returning Ciarán Frawley.

Elsewhere, Tigers have made three changes to the team from last week's victory away to Newcastle, with Dan Cole returning at tighthead prop.
