Johnny Sexton will have to wait even longer to discover whether or not he is to incur a suspension, after a prolonged disciplinary hearing today.

The Ireland captain appeared via videolink at an independent EPCR disciplinary hearing relating to his conduct after Leinster's Champions Cup final defeat to La Rochelle in May.

Misconduct complaints were brought against Sexton and Leinster last month by tournament organisers, regarding his behaviour towards the match officials immediately after full-time in the final on 20 May.

Sexton was seen remonstrating with referee Jaco Peyper, along with his fellow officials, on the pitch after the game. The Leinster captain did not play in the final due to a groin injury which has kept him sidelined since March.

RTÉ Sport understands that no decision will be made today on whether or not the 38-year-old will face a suspension, with an announcement to be made in the coming days.

The hearing began at 9am and ended around 5pm, with the disciplinary committee of Christopher Quinlan KC (England, Chair), Adam Casselden SC (Australia) and Marcello D'Orey (Portugal) to deliberate on a decision.

If found guilty of using abusive language to a match official, Sexton could be suspended for one or all of Ireland's friendlies against Italy, England and Samoa, while a longer ban could see him miss some of the Rugby World Cup in France this September.

Even a two-game suspension would see Sexton miss out on a final appearance at the Aviva Stadium, with the out-half due to retire after the tournament.

Sexton is among a 42-man Ireland squad which has been in training camp since 19 June.
