Ireland lost 69-0 to England last season

Ireland host England in the fourth round of the TikTok Women's Six Nations in Musgrave Park on Saturday afternoon (2.15pm).

Greg McWilliams' charges have lost three from three, against Wales, France and Italy, while the Red Roses, ranked world number one, are on their usual course for the Grand Slam, which they have won in four of the last five years that the tournament was completed.

They have beaten Scotland, Italy and Wales by a combined total of 185 points to 15 this season.

Ireland have only ever beaten England twice in the Women's Six Nations and that stat is unlikely to change this weekend.

It's been a very tough slog for Ireland, on and off the field, over the course of this championship. A demoralising opening round defeat to Wales, 31-5, was followed up by a hammering at the hands of the French in Musgrave Park.

There was some hope that Italy might provide a chance for the team to snatch a win but, despite better territory and possession stats, Ireland were not clinical enough in the red zone and were constantly let down at the lineout and by poor handling.

Opponents don't come any more difficult than England, World Cup finalists last year. There are over 50,000 tickets sold for next weekend's Twickenham clash with France so all involved on Saturday in Cork will be determined to keep their places for that.

There will be no let-up and Ireland will need to produce an incredible performance to keep the score reasonable. The hosts lost last year's game 69-0 in Leicester.

McWilliams has made three changes to the team beaten 24-7 by Italy in Parma last week. Brittany Hogan replaces the injured Dorothy Wall at flanker, while scrum-half Molly Scuffil-McCabe and centre Vicky Irwin come in for Ailsa Hughes and Anna McGann.

Simon Middleton has recalled 60-cap Natasha Hunt at scrum-half, while front-rowers Hannah Botterman and Maud Muir get their first starts of the campaign.

Morwenna Talling and Helena Rowland are poised to make their first outings of the championship after being picked on the bench.

Greg McWilliams (Ireland head coach): "We have been testing the players this week...put them into situations that are uncomfortable and make them work hard for each other. There is a really good energy. I know that the squad is really excited. Our job as a group is to make sure that we are as prepared as possible."

Simon Middleton (England head coach): "Ireland are experiencing a period of transition at the moment. We know they are a very passionate nation and we will need to be at our best to perform and earn the desired result."
