JP Ferreira will leave Munster at the end of the season to join outgoing head coach Johann van Graan at Bath.

The defence coach joined Munster from the Lions just over four years ago and, having previously worked with Van Graan as part of the Springboks coaching team in 2016, it is no great surprise to see him join his compatriot at the Premiership strugglers.

Van Graan announced his departure in December, deciding to activate a release clause in his contract to leave the province at the end of the current season.

Bath have confirmed most of the coaching team to work under Van Graan next season at the Rec, with Neil Hatley and Luke Charteris continuing as forwards coach and lineout coach respectively, while an attack coach is yet to be confirmed.

In a statement JP Ferreira said it had not been an easy decision to leave Munster.

"I have been in this role for five seasons and during this time I have enjoyed every minute of coaching at this incredible club.

"The experience I have gained and the friendships that I have made along the way will forever stay with me. The way Munster Rugby opened their arms to my family and I throughout my tenure has been outstanding and we are forever grateful to everyone that has made this journey memorable and possible," he added.

"On a personal note, as a family with young children we have an opportunity to experience a different environment and new challenges and we feel this move is the right next step for us."
