These are the games you want to play in - Jack Carty excited by Connacht's Leicester challenge

Connacht captain Jack Carty wants his team-mates to embrace the challenge facing them against the Leicester Tigers at Welford Road this Sunday.

Andy Friend's side travel to the Premiership leaders with both sides looking to make it two wins from two in this season's Heineken Champions Cup, and in turn take a huge step towards the last-16.

Connacht were beaten 48-32 when they took on the Tigers in the last-16 of the Challenge Cup eight months ago, but both sides have made significant strides since then.

And while Connacht approach the game on a run of three wins in four games, their good form pales in comparison to the Tigers, who have won 10 out of 10 in all competitions.

Their renaissance under Steve Borthwick has come after several years of decline, and Carty says while the challenge facing Connacht this Sunday will be huge, it's a welcome sight to see the Tigers roaring again.

"These are the games you want to play in," said Carty.

"It's probably when you were younger watching European games, a lot of the big ones were in Welford Road when they were getting those massive 26,000 crowds.

"They've gone ten in a row in league and now in Europe, so it’s a big game for us. They’re littered with internationals and we’re really looking forward to it."

It's likely Connacht will face a similar style of rugby at Welford Road this week to what they dealt with against Stade Francais on Sunday in their 36-9 win at the Sportsground.

Carty was man of the match as his side patiently rode through a third-quarter rough patch, before rounding off their bonus point win with three tries in the final 10 minutes.

It was a "massively satisfying" reward for their patience, but the captain says there are plenty of improvements needed.

He said: "We've spoken about not following a bad decision with a bad (decision).

"There are a couple of occasions when we did that twice. And ultimately if you do that three times in a row, you’ll be under your sticks. So we spoke about not doing three in a row and sticking to the task at hand. And we did that.

"In fairness to the lads, when they (Stade Francais) did get to our 22, we repelled them.

"It still wasn’t perfect.

"There were a couple of midfield scrums there where our kick execution probably wasn’t where it needed to be.

"But the way we put pressure on them, when they tried to run the ball out of their half, we just suffocated them. So we’re happy with how we did it but there is still a lot more to come from us."
