France scrum-half Antoine Dupont has been named World Rugby Men's Player of the Year, while England forward Zoe Aldcroft was named women's Player of the Year for 2021.

Dupont, the 25-year-old Toulouse star, follows in the footsteps of his national team head coach Fabien Galthie who won the award 19 years ago, while he's the first French winner since Thierry Dusatoir in 2011.

Dupont was the overwhelming choice of the public, taking two-thirds of the public vote ahead of England's Maro Itoje, and Australian pair Michael Hooper and Samu Kerevi.

Dupont was promoted to captain of France during the Autumn Nations Series in the absence of Charles Ollivon, leading France to three wins, including a first over New Zealand on home soil since 2000.

Earlier this season, he scored three tries in five games as France finished second in the Six Nations, while also playing a starring role in Toulouse's Heineken Champions Cup and Top 14 double.

Meanwhile, England forward Aldcroft was named women's Player of the Year for 2021.

The 25-year-old Gloucester-Hartpury second row beat England team-mate Poppy Cleall and French duo Caroline Boujard and Laure Sansus to the award, which was determined by a poll of fans.

It completes a notable England double after Red Roses boss Simon Middleton was named coach of the year.
