Ireland men lost out to Australia 24-12 in the quarter-final of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Dubai, while their women counterparts came good to defeat Great Britain.

Jordan Conroy and Terry Kennedy touched down to give Ireland the advantage in the second period, but the Aussies replied with tries from Corey Toole and Henry Patterson to seal their 12-point victory.

The Irish also lost out to Great Britain in the battle for fifth spot on a 24-19 scoreline, with the USA their opponents in the seventh-place play-off.

Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe, Claire Boles, Lucy Mulhall, Megan Burns all got over for tries as the Ireland women's side battled back to beat Great Britain 24-17 and then defeated Canada 26-12 to secure seventh spot.
