Australia captain Michael Hooper has been ruled out of Saturday's Autumn Nations Series clash with Wales.

The Wallabies announced on Twitter that Hooper was suffering from a sprained foot and would miss the Principality Stadium encounter.

Hooper, 30, won his 118th Test cap in Australia’s 32-15 loss to England last weekend, but went off during the second half.

The Wallabies added that prop James Slipper will captain the team against Wales.

Slipper, a 113 cap veteran for the Wallabies, previously captained the side in a 2015 World Cup warm-up game versus the USA.

Hooper's absence could pave the way for former Connacht flanker Colby Fainga'a to make his Wallabies debut.

The 30-year-old was a major hit at the Sportsground in his two seasons from 2018 to 2020 before joining French Tip14 side Lyon.

Australia are looking to end a disappointing end-of-year tour on a high against Wales this Saturday, following previous defeats to Scotland and England.
