Rugby League Ireland has been fined £4,100 (€4,800) by International Rugby League for a breach of its eligibility rules.

The regulatory breach occurred during the build-up to Ireland women's first international against Wales on 17 October.

The IRL is satisfied that Ireland did not field any ineligible players in the match but says they failed to attend to the correct paperwork.

A statement said: "RLI has agreed that its processes to confirm eligibility did not function in this case.

"It has accepted the outcome and is taking the required steps to rectify the problems encountered.

"IRL accepts that there was no malicious intent behind these breaches and has confidence that, with the support provided, the process will run smoothly in future."
