Leinster edged out Connacht, while Munster thrashed Ulster in the opening games of the Vodafone Women's Interprovincial Series.

The Sportsground was the venue as Leinster prevailed 17-12. Meadbh Scally got in for an early try for the hosts only for Jennie Finlay to respond for the visitors after a clever overlap.

As half-time beckoned both sides traded tries as Connacht centre Shannon Touhey and Leinster’s Michelle Claffey went over.

12-12 at the break. The second half was a war of attrition, but Leinster looked the more likely and they were rewarded on 67 when player of the match Claffey went over for her second try.

At the Kingspan Stadium Munster ran in eight tries, with prop Chloe Pearse accounting for three of those. Siobhán McCarthy, Muirne Wall, Chisom Ugwueru, Nicole Cronin and Aoife Moore also crossed for the visitors who ran out 50-5 winners

Ulster's response was from Beth Cregan’s first-half try.
